Labor of Love: Design Proposal, 2023
Labor of Love was originally intended as a design proposal for the Romantic Urbanism submission, a call to design with love in mind. When I created the spiral, I was thinking about how the form expands and contracts, much like our connections with other people. The spiral seating became a way for people to sit with their loved ones and cultivate connection and community.
I didn’t receive the grant to build the installation, but many people resonated with the concept. That response pushed me to imagine how the idea could come to life without the limitations of a tangible objects or financial resources. I connected with a few creatives in my community to curate a night of discussions and presentations centered on their own “labor of love” practices. This event became the catalyst for my desire to design and curate experiences focused on social innovation.
